We’ve asked some of our families/whānau why they chose our kindergarten and what they like about our service - and here’s what they had to say.

“Dyer Street Kindy provides plenty of activities and games that challenge and fulfil our child’s learning and development. Lots of laughter and noise can be heard from the children and teachers as they play and interact. We really appreciate the effort that goes into communicating with and informing parents e.g. regular newsletters, workbook comments, observation sheets and learning stories. We think the new hours are great too!!”

“My twins love going to Dyer St Kindy and I always feel at ease dropping them off knowing they are in good hands. The staff are wonderful. Always a smile on their face, knowing all the children by name and greeting them as soon as they arrive. It doesn’t take them long to realise which children require a little more attention… whether this be children unhappy when their Mum or Dad drops them off… they are soon happy and playing alongside others. Or if a child has advanced learning, communication or behavioural needs, these are noted and discussed with us as a parent. This is reassuring that they get to know each child and their needs and they are not just another face. There is always fun in learning at Dyer St Kindy.”

“Both children have loved attending Dyer St Kindy, right from the outset. It has been a welcoming environment for them, where they feel special and cared for. As a family we have many, many happy memories, spending time together at morning or afternoon kindy, on an exciting kindy outing, or a family night with fish n chips, fun entertainment and the obligatory lolly scramble. The annual ‘Wheelathon’ has become a family institution. The staff have been fabulous – pouring themselves into providing an exceptional education and fun learning environment for the children. Parent/teacher feedback is first rate – take for example the treasured ‘learning stories’ and kindy workbooks, which provide a colourful, vibrant and informative open window into the child’s growing confidence and skills.

The Head Teacher, Sarah Kinraid, is second to none in her hands-on application of over 20 years wisdom and experience and giving the best to the children in her and her staff’s care. She is, simply outstanding and an absolute credit to Early Childhood Education. I firmly believe she has made Dyer Street the highly popular and successful kindy that it is today.

Both my wife and I have been active members of the Kindy Committee, and our participation has given us the opportunity to observe first hand how efficiently and effectively things are organised and run ‘behind the scenes’.

I am frequently reminded of the degree to which Dyer Street contributes to the overall sense of identity and wellbeing within the wider Lower Hutt community. The fact that this positive impact reaches far beyond the gates of the kindy, remains a source of pleasant surprise.”
